Joel Benjamin

Joel Benjamin (born March 11, 1964) is a chess Grandmaster.
Joel Benjamin is the top rated active chess player who was born in the United States. He was the US Chess Champion in 1987, 1997, and 2000. He was hired as a consultant by IBM to help with the Deep Blue chess computer that defeated World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov in 1997.
On the April 2005 FIDE list, Benjamin had an Elo rating of 2563, making him the USA's number thirteen, and the number two native born US player behind Bobby Fischer who is inactive. Benjamin won the 2005 US Open Chess Championship, in Phoenix, Arizona.
